I love Kenpo X! Always a good workout, and always one that I feel I have accomplished the most when I am finished. Today, my heart-rate was a little higher than normal (180 bpm as opposed to 160-165), but I didn't feel winded or light-headed, nor did I feel like I was overdoing it. I used to get that my pulse up that high when I swam competitively too, but never worried about it and never had any truly adverse side effects that I know of. Oddly enough I was able to increase my distance per stroke (DPS) at that pulse rate, even though 160 bpm is the target heart-rate for maximum DPS. I always figured it was just that I had a high resting pulse (which I do... 92 bpm is my resting HR) and that this was the appropriate range for me. Am I wrong for thinking like that? Should I be concerned? Is it truly risky to do cardio at that HR, or is it a non-issue? Anything I should do about it if it is risky?
